The rumours were there for months but today it was confirmed: The start of the Tour de France 2015 will take place in my town!
Exited by the news, i'm looking forward to the presentation of the route: Will it be a prologue or a sprint?
As the surroundings of Utrecht has little to offer concerning hills, i'm hoping for the first option: In my opinion there are a lot of changes to make it a day to remember...
What about the riders passing the tunnel right under the Domtower full speed? Making a hard left-hand turn, passing the tiny and crowded cobbles along the Oude Gracht and the many cosy square's, it would make a spectacular and very technicall start with time differences right from the beginning!
What about continuing the route right through the beautifull forrest of Amelisweerd and Rhijnauwen, finishing on the wide roads surrounding the old town, De Neude or the chicanes of Ledig Erf?
Whether it will be a prologue, a TTT or a sprint, it will be spectacular as many roads are tricky because of Dutch (road)infrastucture.
This is how it was back in 2010 when the second stage of the Giro finished here:
